What is a Session?

A "session" is a gathering of men and women to hear the words of a prominent community leader, on a topic of contemporary importance, and on the application of Judeo-Christian principles to daily life, as a family member, professional, and citizen.

Fr. Juan Velez

Fr Juan Velez was born in Venezuela and grew up in Colombia and the United States. He has also lived in England, Spain and Italy. His earlier professional formation was as a physician specialized in internal medicine. In 1998, he obtained a doctorate in Dogmatic Theology at the University of Navarre with a thesis on Cardinal Newman’s teaching on life after death. The same year he was ordained a priest of the Prelature of Opus Dei and since then has served as a priest in various cities of the United States, often providing human and spiritual formation to college students.

He is chaplain at Northview Study Center in Chicago, Illinois. He is author of several medical ethics and theology articles as well as the books Passion for Truth, the Life of John Henry Newman (TAN Books 2012) and A University Education for the 21st Century: the Opening of the American Mind (Createspace 2015). With Mike Aquilina he is co-author of Take Five, Meditations with John Henry Newman (Our Sunday Visitor 2010).
